Casey has sandy brown hair that he wears in a short and easily managed style…think of it as a ‘wash and go’ type look. His sapphire blue eyes compliment his slightly rosy complexion nicely. The most striking feature of Casey’s is his youthful appearance; although he is 72 years old, he could easily pass for early thirties in Human terms. |

| General Overview | At 72 years old, Casey Virel has seen over four decades of Starfleet service. He is far from a ‘been there, done that’ type of person, however. Casey’s level of experience has given him a level of calm and control that gives him both a measured presence and controlled intensity. He is calm, almost to the point of being disquieting, and he rarely raises his voice or shows outward urgency. Casey thinks in systems, patterns and consequences. He is constantly processing his environment, watching the ripple effects of how decisions compound over time. Where others see problems and chaos, Casey sees structure. He has little patience for theatrics, shortcuts and blind trust in systems. He can be stubborn, even rigid at times, particularly when he believes his experience is being disregarded. |

| Personal History | Casey Virel was born in 2332 in Tycho city, raised in a household shaped by logistics, discipline and quiet precision. His mother worked in orbital scheduling and cargo coordination for the Luna Shipyards, exposing Casey early to the invisible architecture that keeps Starfleet functioning. From a young age, Virel demonstrated an unusual relationship with time and process-patient, observant and methodical. He never saw problems as obstacles; instead, they were systems that were to be understood fully. By adolescence, Casey was assisting his mother with modeling traffic flow scenarios and contingency plans, refining them less for speed than for resilience under failure conditions. Following primary school, Casey spent time with his aging mother as his parents travelled throughout Federation space. Before he knew it, ten years had slipped away. Casey entered Starfleet Academy in 2360 with a declared major in Operations and Systems Management. His performance at the Academy was consistent, precise and most notably calm under pressure. While not known for bold or unconventional approaches, Virel excelled in systems integration, failure mitigation, and resource prioritization. Instructors frequently noted his lack of a panic response, even in high-stress simulations. Casey graduated in 2364, tenth in his class. He was commissioned as an Ensign and stationed aboard the Excelsior-class USS Carrollton. Casey served on the Carrollton until 2371; he was promoted in 2369 to Lieutenant JG and named Assistant Chief Operations Officer. His years on the aging Excelsior-class vessel proved formative; frequent exposure to degraded or unreliable systems taught Casey to rely more on manual overrides and non-standard procedures. During a cascading power relay failure in 2370, Casey manually coordinated a full systems reroute and redistribution that prevented catastrophic loss of life support. This incident marked Casey’s first formal commendation. In 2371, Lieutenant Virel was transferred to the Nebula-class USS Gettysburg. When the Dominion War broke out two years later, Casey and the Gettysburg joined the Seventh Fleet and were immediately on the front lines. At the Battle of Tyra, the Chief of Operations was killed and Casey immediately took over as the interim Chief. In part due to Casey’s skilled resource management, the Gettysburg was one of only fourteen ships to survive that engagement. Seven months following, Casey was promoted to full Lieutenant and named permanent Chief of Operations. The Gettysburg participated in several more pivotal engagements, including Operation Return and the Battle of Cardassia Prime. Casey was offered the Second Officer position on the Gettysburg in 2374, a position that he turned down. Since most of the Gettysburg crew were being reassigned, Casey took a position in 2375 with the Starfleet Auditor General Office; in this position, he focused on fleet recovery and returning to operational readiness. He served in the Auditor General Office until 2390, when he requested a shipboard posting. Now Lieutenant Commander Casey Virel was assigned to the Sovereign-class USS Monarch as Chief of Operations. During a small engagement in 2398 with a previously unknown adversary in the Ba’ku sector, Casey made the critical decision to divert power from weapons systems to structural integrity and life support; this decision earned him the Starfleet Medal of Commendation. Upon the retirement of the Monarch’s CO in 2404, Casey requested reassignment and was selected for the Chief of Operations post on the USS Scharnhorst. |
