Newbies in Sickbay

Mission: Episode 1: Shadows of Diplomacy
Location: Sickbay

Darla was humming to herself as she finished making some notes on her padd, and turned at the sound of the Sickbay doors opening. She smiled at the newcomer and walked over. "Hello, Ensign," she said. "I'm Doctor Kennings. How can we help you, today?"

Greetings Doc, I’m Ens Kaayu Shir, new security chief on this ship.” The bajoran female said. “I was told to come and see you for my first check up .” she said taking off her earring, figuring it out Starfleet wouldn't allow the earring Bajoran Females wear. Kaayu grinned after that feeling a little Nervous, with Starfleet rules.

Darla nodded and gave the ensign a welcoming smile. "Pleasure to meet you," she said. "If you'll follow me, we'll get you squared away."

Kaayu smiled ,”Same here.” she said to the medical personal. Kaayu followed the doc and walked toward her ,as she checked out sickbay.

Darla led the other woman over to an exam room and stepped aside as the door opened, gesturing for the other woman to enter.

Kaayu went in the other room, to be examined by the Medical officer, As she was told.

Darla followed her in and patted the biobed. "Hop up, lie down, and make yourself comfortable," she said, flipping open her tricorder and removing the probe, waiting by the side of the bed.

Kaayu did what she was told by her, as she laid down on the biobed, As she was getting ready to be checked out by the ships Medical officer. “I’m new here.” Kaayu said, to the Medical person.

Darla grinned. "That makes two of us," she said, scanning slowly. "My fiancé and I arrived yesterday. Between finalizing things in Sickbay and working on crew physicals, I've barely had a chance to unpacked our quarters." She adjusted a setting and scanned again, glancing at the biobed's display. "Excited to be shipping out?"

Kaayu Grinned. ”Excited and a bit nervous,” she said trying to calm down. She wondered how the Captain and the crew would like someone like her as Chief of Security, even though she's an Ensign. “Boy, must be nice for you to have your fiancé with you. Not many people get so lucky,” Kaayu chuckled while laying on the biobed.

Kaayu was wondering if she would get so lucky one day aboard the ship.

Darla smiled, bringing the tricorder prob down along Kaayu's head and activating the scanner. "True. I won't lie, I may have called in a favor or two to keep us together. He only proposed yesterday so this whole 'fiancé' thing is a big new step. Still, it's been on the horizon for a while." She smiled idly as she scanned. "I'm just glad it finally happened." She brought her attention back to her patient. "As for you, don't be nervous. Just do your job and try your best."

Kaayu, smiled, as she heard what Darla said. "Congrats to you two. When's the big day," she said as she allowed the medical officer to examine her.

"Oh, gods, we aren't close to dates yet," Darla said, laughing, as she continued down Kaayu's body. "That's going to take coordinating both families back on Earth, not to mention five or six starships, not including this one. We've still got some time, so I'm not rushing yet, but I thought I'd let him enjoy this new chapter before I start bombarding him with details about a wedding."

Darla closed the tricorder as she finished the main scan and began checking more detailed data from the biobed. "So, is this your first assignment? You have that 'fresh from the Academy' look about you." She gave the other girl a wink.

Kaayu smiled as she winked back. "Yes, my first assignment , and a bit nervous, being Chief Security. I studied Security in the Academy." Kaaya said looking at Darla.

"Well, having been on a couple tours of duty already, I can tell you that nothing at the academy prepares you like actual experience. So, be prepared to let go of whatever you've been taught and accept what you are about to learn." She smiled and shut down the biobed, transferring the data to a padd. "But, for now, the good news is you're in good health and ready to go."

Kaayu smiled. "Thanks Ma'am." Kaayu got off the biobed, and headed to her chief security station/office, on the bridge.

Darla raised an eyebrow as the other woman abruptly departed. "Dismissed, I suppose," she said to herself and transferred her notes to the woman's file before marking the exam room for reset.
