Kalina walked in next, she took a good look around the sterile environment known as Sickbay. It was sterile clean but she could also tell there was a flare to this place a beauty that she hadn't initially anticipated. The Betazoid in her wanted to know more. "Oh I got it now where did you get these drapes are they replicated or did you purchase it?" Kalina asked has she passed the bio bed. She really appreciated the craftsmanship.
"Talking to yourself is more a visit to Doctor Winters than myself," Darla said, teasingly, coming up behind her. "I'm Doctor Kennings, how can I help you?"
Kalina was a little taken by her response. She started to touch the fabric feeling how smooth it was. "This is good quality, is this your doing?" She asked that she turned around and looked at the good doctor.
"Privacy screens need to be opaque and sterile. The bed sheets here need to be sterile, but there's no reason they cannot be comfortable. As for the walls," she looked around. "I've always like a little color in the room." She blinked her violet eyes and grinned at her own joke. "So I called in a few favors. Tholian silk is exceptional for rejecting bacteria, so it seemed the right material for the decor." She gave the other woman a warmer smile. "To whom do I have the pleasure of speaking with?"
"Kalina Solwick, Scharnhorst's new Strategic Operations Officer, right now subbing in at the helm so double duty. Wow, that was a mouthful wasn't it? If you need my rank it's Ensign." She said with the warm smile and she turned on and licked and loved the natural highlights of her hair. Just married to say something but then she realized she probably needed to let the good doctor and put the information into the system.
After waiting for a few seconds, she continued on. "I assume that's a natural highlights of your hair color, or did you dye it?" Kalina said, as she was fascinated by the good doctor's hair. This doctor has some good taste.
Darla tucked a lock of bubblegum pink hair behind her ear self consciously and smoothed her hair. Each lock was a different color, spanning almost every hue and shade in the spectrum. "No, it's a natural feature of my mother's species. As are these," she said, indicating her violet eyes. "Taurean genetics are extremely dominant, so all Taurean daughters wind up with hair, eyes and height like mine, among other things."
"It's very pretty, a lot of people would love to have hair like yours." Kalina says with a warm smile on her face. "Sorry if I am distracting you. This place is amazing."
"Quite all right. The ship is rather amazing, at that," Darla said, nodding as she ran her scans. "As for hair like mine, well, it would take quite a bit of work, but I'm sure the right stylist could manage it." She smiled gently. "Although sometimes being constantly standing out in a crowd isn't always a blessing. Be careful what you wish for, right?" She gave the girl a wink and adjusted something on her tricorder. "Is this your first assignment?"
"It is, and I'm very excited." Kalina said with a big smirk on her face. There is nothing more exciting than your first assignment." She thought to herself, time to address the question that Kalina wanted to address, she paused for a moment. Then she went on to ask. "Do we need to have a conversation about birth control or anything like that during these examinations? Because I'm married."
Darla looked up in surprise. "Well...if you're looking to avoid conception for now, then your husband should be in to see me about his monthly injection. Who is your spouse, if I may ask?"
"Zaire Solwick." Kalina said, she continued on. "He is a good man, but we are not sure if we are ready to have children just yet. We just met again, barely been married a month," she said. She was Betazoid and she was involved in an arranged marriage. She was bonded to him since she was little.
Darla checked his file. "All right...let's see," she said. "Well, the good news is, you aren't pregnant yet. The bad news is, he's due for an injection, so you've been beating the odds this whole time." She made a note in his file. "I'll have him scheduled for an injection and you'll be all set, just maybe find alternative endings to lovemaking for the next forty-eight hours."
"Aren't I suppose to get an injection as well?" Kalina asked, not sure why he was the only one getting an injection.
"It's not necessarily necessary if he's receiving it regularly," Darla said. "If you really want, I can prescribe one for you as well, but generally the standard injection for him should suffice."
"Well I suppose you will have to ask him, when he comes in for his physical." Kalina said, as she looked around, then back at her. "What's next?" She asked, feeling a little antsy.
"Blood sample, and you're good to go," Darla said, grabbing a plasma extractor and an empty vial. "You're up to date on vaccinations and such, so we don't need to worry on that for a few months. Past that...any questions for me?"
Kalina extended out her hand, getting ready for a blood sample. "No questions, thanks for making this painless Doctor." She was eager to get back to duty. She still had a few more hours on her shift, and she soon she'd be temporarily flying the Scharnhorst.
Darla pressed the nozzle against Kalina's arm and with a hiss extracted the sample, putting it down on a tray and making notes on her padd. "You're welcome. You're clear for duty, Ensign." She let the young woman hop down, marked the biobed for reset and pressed on.

Zoey Armstrong walked in shortly after Kalina left. She quickly popped up on the bio bed, dangling her feet off the side waiting for somebody to say something. She was a little ambitious, wanted to get this over with she was kind of hoping her spunky personality would make that pretty clear. She had a bubbly type of personality towards her. But the big Grant you just sat there waiting, but she didn't have to wait long.
Emily walked by, padds in hand, and stopped short, seeing an unattended patient. "Hello, I'm Nurse Bowman. Have you been checked in?" she said.
"I have not, but sorry if I jumped the gun I guess to say. But I probably should have waited before I hopped on the bed." Zoey said with a little bit of cheer in her voice. She looked around the room again still taking in everything.
"Well, no harm done, that bed was free," Emily said. She put her load down on a counter and picked up one of the empty padds. "What brings you in?"
"Starfleet insists I have to do a physical every time I go to a new assignment. Oh, the irony of that statement; this is my first assignment." Zoey said playfully. She had a good feeling about the lady helping her. "I'm Zoey, Zoey Armstrong."
"Well, then, congratulations on your first on-boarding physical," Emily said. "I'm Emily, or Nurse Bowman, and, truth be told, it's my first ship assignment as well. I did a brief stint at Starfleet Medical, so this is my first time on a starship."
"Hey at least we're on an Inquiry-class starship. We could be on a Oberth-class." Zoey suggested. She knew most of those ships had been retired.
"Yeah, good point," Emily said. "Talk about cramped. At least here, I have my own quarters. They're a closet, but it's better than Ensign's Row bunks." She realized she was talking to another ensign and gave an embarrassed smile. "Sorry. I'm sure it's not that bad."
"There are some advantages to it, makes it harder to fool around."
That's an advantage? Emily wondered.
"Hey speaking of which, if I wanted to declare my intentions..." she started to say she took a short breath.
Emily's eyebrows went up. Damn, that's being forward, she thought.
"I remember in the academy, they said we had to report any potential species mating , something about making with another culture could have medical complications. There's a cute Aenar on the ship who has been trying to get my attention." Zoey said feeling like she just rambled all that out. Mainly because she didn't want to forget, and she didn't want to get in trouble.
"Ah," Emily said, letting out a sigh of relief. "Well, there aren't any known compatibility issues between humans and the Aenar, so as long as you two don't do anything too dangerous, sex should be perfectly safe," she said.
"I guess put it in my file, that I have permission to pursue a sexual encounter with the Aenar." Zoey said, with a nervous smile. She was not sure if she would sleep with the Aenar, but she wanted it on file, just to be on the safe side.
Emily made some dramatic pokes at the padd and made it beep. "Done. You are now authorized to date."
"I appreciate that." Zoey said, as she tapped Emily in the arm, in a friendly gesture of respect. "I want to be clear, I am not sleeping with anyone yet. Just wanted to get permission first."
"Yup, got that," Emily said. "Pretty much all species on board are clear for it, it's when we start mixing with the new species in the Federation, or exotics start flirting with us, that Medical starts to worry. Just make sure if any men are involved that they've had their shots. Other than that? Have fun." She gave the other girl a smile and a wink.
"Not for a man, but I do like them too." Zoey said with a smirk on her face. She was curious to see how Emily would respond to the revelation that she likes both sexes.
Emily shrugged. "More fun for me then. I've peeked over your fence a time or two too. Still, if the situation arises, just double check."
"Which one is more fun for you?" Zoey asked, loving her energy. She was curious if Emily swung for both teams, or she was just into the ladies or into the men.
"Subtlety doesn't work with you, huh?" Emily said. "Well, if you aren't going after the boys as much, that leaves them for me. So, more fun for me. And, as I've said, I've played for my own team before, so I'm not averse to it. I just don't usually talk about it in such a public setting, like, you know, where I work." She nodded to the rest of Sickbay.
"Fair enough, watch out for Sebastian he tried to hit on me three times. Comes on way to strong." Zoey said, giving her new friend the nurse, a heads up.
Emily snorted a laugh. "Yeah, too little too late. He's already tried his magic on me. He's plenty cute, but yeah a bit strong. Maybe when he mellows out I'll stop giving him a hard time," she gave Zoey a wry smile, "and give him a hard time." She snickered and rolled her eyes.
"Is there a girl on this ship he has not hit on?" Zoey asked, with a smirk on her face. Sebastian moves at light speed. She was impressed at his determination, but thought it was a little sad.
"Pretty sure he hasn't met my boss yet," Emily said. "Although she'd shoot him down cold. All she goes on about is her fiancé. It's cute, but, a lot." She grinned.
"I hope to run into you again." Zoey said, as she got ready to leave sickbay. She really enjoyed talking to Emily. The first girl that did not try to hit on her.
"Yup, same," Emily said, chuckling. "See you around!" She made some notes and waved.
