Episode 1: Shadows of Diplomacy
Location: USS Scharnhorst, Bridge
Location: USS Scharnhorst, Bridge
The Next Day...
The USS Scharnhorst was dropping out of slipstream, she had been traveling for nearly 16 hours. The Scharnhorst had to leave Earth, before she was fully crewed, but Starfleet Command said they would provide additional crew after the completion of their current mission. Adrian reviewed his data pad. He really regretted leaving Earth without a yeoman. Typically a Yeoman would prep him for his daily obligations.
Adrian also believed that Eddie Brisko had a welcome party for the Scharnhorst; he wanted to prepare for it. Adrian looked over to Ensign Kalina Solwick, the acting helmsman once Robert went on the mission. Then he looked over to her commanding officer the Aenarian Chief Strategic Operations Officer. "Lieutenant zh'Vethryn , has your team had any luck locating Mister Brisko's ship."
"I have, sir. Putting it on main viewer now." Thoande reported.
"Lieutenant Brant, head to the shuttle bay, its time. Operation Risa is a go; prepare your strike team," Adrian said, as he looked to Robert at the helm station from the command chair. He wished he was going on the mission personally. But he knew his place was on the bridge.
"Aye, Captain," Robert said, clearing the helm for another user and nodding to Kalina. "Ensign, she's all yours," he said.
"Yes Sir," Ill try not to break anything. Kalina said teasingly.
"Don't mess with my subspace radio presets," he said, giving her a smile and a wink.
"I'll take good care of her." Kalina said, as she slid into the helmsman station.
He stood up and left the helm in her hands and turned towards Lt. Thoande. "Lieutenant? You're with me."
Thoande nodded and followed the human out.
They headed for the turbolift and as they stepped inside, Robert looked up at the intercom. "Shuttlebay," he said, the doors closing and cutting them off.
Adrian tapped on his intercom button in the command chair, as he opened a ship wide channel. "Red alert, all hands to battle stations. We are just outside of sensor range from the Risa System, we are expecting an armed conflict. I want all stations ready to go. This is not a drill, we have trained for this moment." Adrian said, as he ended the channel.
The klaxons started to go off. "Silent those alarms, Commander Virel." Adrian called out as he looked to his Chief Operations Officer, He took a deep breath, and remained focus on the task at hand. Preparing the Scharnhorst for combat.
Wordlessly, with a carefully executed series of keystrokes, the Operations Chief silenced the red alert klaxon. The sound itself, designed to draw attention and keep the crew focused, was a distraction to some; Casey certainly understood that. Over forty years of hearing that noise on Starfleet vessels made him quite aware of that.
Colton was on the bridge, keeping his eyes on one of the consoles for any sign of trouble. He knew this would be no easy task. “He’s out there watching us, we need to stay alert for trouble”.
"Agreed. Ensign Shir, I want continuous tactical sweeps." Adrian called out as he walked over to the science station that Zoey was covering for the time being.
Ensign Shir did what she was told with the tactical sweeps and watched the screen in the process, as she continued on.
"Thank you Ensign." Adrian said, as he made it over to the sensor station. "Ensign Armstrong, I want you to run long range scans. Since Lieutenant zh'Vethryn is going on the mission and Ensign Solwick is going to the helm, I will need your assistance on this one." He hoped she was ready for this.
"Aye Captain, you can count on me." Zoey said, as she began running sensor sweeps. She knew she could handle this assignment. A chance for her to prove herself.
“I will shunt additional computer processing bandwidth to the sensor arrays,” said Casey in a matter-of-fact tone. Staying on top of everything going on in their vicinity was of paramount importance right now…lives were hanging in the balance.
"Good idea, I am expecting him to ambush us. But we will be ready. The important thing is we prepare a distraction for the Shuttlecraft. Lieutenant Brant's team will sneak in." Adrian suggested to his crew.
"Understood, Sir." Colton replied. He was keeping in contact with the shuttlebay and other departments to make certain everything was as it should be.
"Alright folks, were about ready to enter the Risa system. According to our sensors we don't see Mr Brisko or his ship in the area. Starfleet intelligence believes that he's hiding nearby and is ready to strike as soon as we come in. Our intelligence operatives heaven struggling to keep our chief science officer and her daughter safe. Together we're going to get through this. . Even though he has not been located, his crew has been lurking around the system."
"I want all stations ready to go on a moments notice, we will continue to be at yellow alert, but want to jump into the system will ratio does a cautionary or step once we confirm that our shuttle properly makes the warp atmospheric drop." Adrian said is he looked around to the rest of the bridge officer still on the bridge.
"The science station is ready captain, we are conducting long range scans I'm running all sensors." Zoey called out, finding a little easier now that Thoande left a bridge and prepared for her mission. The two of them were kind of flirting and she was a very attractive lady she was trying not to make it obvious that she was staring.
Sebastian from secondary operations was working hard, unfortunately he didn't get to speak to the captain because that would be his commanding officers responsibility. He primarily focused on the test at his CEO told him, in this particular case he was checking on all secondary systems.
Kalina was at the helm, she wasn't nervous earlier, but after listening to the second walkthrough by Lieutenant Brant, she was now a little nervous. She verified the helms course waited for orders to move for the time being she was mainly focusing on keeping the shift in a straight line as they slowly proceeded towards the rising system in a little bit they be jumping to warp.
"The shuttle is away, Captain." Colton informed the captain. This was the part of the mission they would all be holding their breath for, figuratively speaking. Until everyone was safe and back on board.
"My intelligence contacts inform me that Mr. Brisko is definitely close at hand, Captain." Sienna spoke up. "And he has been bragging that he will have Lieutenant Mist and her daughter on his ship soon."
“I would be willing to bet that his vessel is equipped with some form of stealth technology,” Casey stated. He did not need to say that, per the Treaty of Algeron, that type of technology was basically illegal. “I am compensating for as many types of stealth as I know of.”
Kaayu was in her security Station as always watching things from a security making sure all was secure through out the ship. Everyone else was at their Stations on the bridge as well.
"Captain the strike teams, indicating that they're in place." Zoey called out from the science station. Besides monitoring sensor she was also monitoring communications.
"Number one, please instruct the strike team they have a go." Adrian called out as he looked at Colton.
Colton quickly informed the strike team that they were good to go ahead. "They have been given the green light." Colton said to the captain.
After hearing the confirmation from Colton, he looked to Kalina. "Miss Solwick, take us to warp." Adrian ordered and he stood up from his chair and then walked over to the helm.
"Aye aye captain." Kalina simply said as she activated the warp engines. This ship suddenly go to warp speed.
Zoey remained silent, she monitored the long range sensor range.
